Matrix tool Sucks
The Matrix tool leaves a lot to be desired in terms of controlling presentation. Row order, controlling sorting, and subtotals are 3 of the immediate things that are frustrating.

There are certainly ways to achieve controls which are not out-of-the-box formatting options. Can you share specifics and maybe we can help?
