Matrix Drill Down Button
Hello!
I have a matrix table in one of my reports.
I created a parameter table with field parameters, and configured the parameter in a slicer. I'm using this slicer essentially to control the heirarchy of the Matrix.
What I have noticed is that whenever I change the selection from the slicers, the heirarchy of the matrix table changes as expected. However, whenever I do, the drill down aspect of the matrix visual returns to the default which involves the user manually drilling down.
I know the July 2025 update mentioned that this would be changed, but I wanted to check if there was any way for me to configure a button to enforce the drill down? The drill-down icon from the matrix visual tends to be a little difficult for users to find.
I want to configure a solution which enforces the drill-down on the matrix heirarchy to be a the lowest level even if the heirarchy order is changed using the field parameters from the slicer. So basically, a button that has the same functionality as the Drill Down icon.

Thank you for posting the query in Microsoft Fabric Community Forum. Also thanks to rajendraongole1, for his inputs on this thread. here I provided workaround that might be resovle the issue more quickly.
I understand how important it is to make the drill-down experience smoother for your users, especially when working with dynamic hierarchies using field parameters.Power BI does not offer a built-in way to trigger drill-down automatically via a button when using field parameters. Each time the hierarchy changes through the slicer, the matrix visual resets its drill state, which unfortunately cannot be controlled programmatically right now.
As a workaround, one option is to set up multiple matrix visuals at different drill levels and use bookmarks or buttons to switch between them. Another approach could be to use tooltips or visual indicators to guide users toward the drill-down icons just to make the experience more intuitive.

Hi ssrinath - You'll have to manually drill down the matrix to the lowest level and create a bookmark while it's fully expanded. Ensure no visuals are selected when creating the bookmark.
Go to the Insert ribbon → Buttons → Blank (or choose a suitable icon).Set its Action type to Bookmark, and assign it to Bookmark B.In the Bookmarks pane, right-click the bookmark → uncheck all options except "Data" and "Visual display".Make sure "Current Page" is selected too if the matrix is on that page.
Make sure the feature is enabled in Options → Preview Features

I tried this, and I think it would work for most cases.
But for me, this wont work unfortunetly. Because I am using field parameters to control the heirarchy of the Matrix, the Drill-down to the lowest level can constantly change based on my selection of the slicer. So essentially, the level of the heirarchies selected can range to 1 to the max, which is 6.
Additionally, the Current Page option for the bookmark doesn't preserve other slicer selections and captures the state of the full page, not the selected matrix only.
In any case, I really appreciate your suggestion!

I was afraid that there was no out of the box 'Drill down' button action available for me to configure a button with.
I had set up my matrix table with bookmarks capturing the expansion of the different heirarchies. However, my users wanted a solution configured where they could control and change the order of the heirarchy of the matrix itself - thats why I had to pivot to using the field parameters to control the heirarchy of the matrix!
Just as a suggestion though, a Drill-Down action would be super super helpful as it can be configured into a button, which would improve the UI/ UX of the reports in the Web as the drill down buttons tend to be hard for users to navigate to.
There is nothing in Power BI that captures the cadence of the user actions on field parameters. You can know which items (columns or measures) are selected but you cannot know in which order. Not for a hierarchy and not for a flat table.
