Hi,
Is there any documentation that clarifies what the maths behind analytics pane trend line?
i.e. is it a line regression trend line?
Thanks,
Hi @Peppearson,
The official documentation regarding this is here: Use the Analytics pane in Power BI Desktop - Power BI | Microsoft Learn. But it does not really explains the math behind it as it is standard in Data Science.
Power BI uses a least-squares regression method to fit the line to the data, which minimizes the sum of the squared distances between the actual data points and the predicted values on the line. The trend line can be displayed as a simple linear regression line or as a moving average line, which smooths out the data by calculating the average of a specified number of adjacent data points.
Hope this helps. There is not really much info into this.
Best regards,
Isaac Chavarria
