March 2020 Desktop using more CPU?

I've upgraded to the March 2020 Power BI desktop and have noticed that Models are hanging and becoming unresponsive, where previously they did not.  Checking my computer resources, its now common for my CPU to be 95%-100% the entire time.  Memory is still where it would normally be (50% to 60% in my current case).

Is anyone else experiencing this?

To head off any basic questions, yes the resources are consumed all by Power BI.  This is mainly the mashup evaluation containers.  Processes such as antivirus are not compounding this, they are excluded and don't show up.

@v-eachen-msft This is a March 2020 100% release number. Its definitely similar to the issue i linked earlier in the thread. I've gone back to the February 2020 version and the issue is gone.

Hi @Anonymous ,

You could use Performance Analyzer to check your performance.

If you have many measures in your report, and their calculation is also complex calculation, then with changing every filter or slicer, you end up with a lot of rounding circles which shows CPU is desperately working hard to calculate all values.

Sorry but why is this always the type or suggestion you get.

You are working ina  version that works absolutely perfectly fine.

You upgrade, and on the next refresh it freezes or time outs and the response is to check your code.

The code hasnt changed.

The version of PBI has.

So to sum up, it's gonna be fixed or I need to buy new computer? 🙂

I think its a bug.  Turning off the new ribbon seems to improve things.  The interface at least doesn't lock up anymore.  If it does, you can press CTRL and unfreeze it.

I have not noticed this although I just recently upgraded. I am on the 64-bit version (March 2020).

Thanks Greg, i did a search at first and didn't find anything but and it looks like something similar might be happening to others.  Mine is also freezing like the link below, but i dug a little deeper to see the CPU maxing out.  I was searching around that symptom instead.
