You can use google maps , enter the postcode to get the latitude and longitude of the member's approximate location. Another method: Google Maps API V3: Get Location (Latitude and Longitude) from Zip Code (Pin Code) using JavaScript (aspsnippets.com)
Although this may be a bit cumbersome, it may not be recognized without a specific location.

Super Userflintstone , do you have long, lat information? because using that you can easily get the distance.
