Map Visual with customized base map

I have a set of GPS location events that I am trying to plot on a map. I need to upload my own aerial image to use as the map base layer in the pre defined visual base layers are not updated frequently enough. Essentially I am trying to add a photo as the background on a map and tell the visual where the image should sit using GPS coordinates.

Has anyone done something like this before or know a way this could be achieved?

Thanks in advance.

Hi @Anonymous ,

I do not believe you can do this with the default Power BI mapping functionlity.

Look into this custom visual  to see if it helps:

This link has detailed mapping information also:

Thanks @MariaP , unfortunately the geofencing of areas in that viaual style won't be able to be applied. I need to use the GPS co-ordinate data to pin point the event locations. Thank you for the recomendation.

I may need to go down the path of a completely new custom visualisation.

Hi @Anonymous ,

One more try,

Not sure the format of your satellite imagery but Mapbox may have an option for you to upload your satellite imagery and create your customised map in Mapbox. You can then investigate the Mapbox Power BI Custom Visual - easily imported into your desktop.
