Map Visual - Custom Tooltip page limitation

I'm using the Map Visual with a custom tooltip page. The tooltip page is a matrix visual.

I have situations where the matrix is displaying more records than can be displayed in the tooltip window (see image). Is there a way to switch focus to the tooltip window so I can scroll down and see rest of records?

Any feedback apreciated, thanks!

  • Tooltip pages in Power BI are not interactive, so there is no way to scroll inside them. As soon as the mouse moves off the source data point the tooltip closes, which is why scrolling cannot be triggered.

If you need users to see all the rows, the usual workaround is to either summarize the matrix in the tooltip (top N rows with a note saying there is more) or switch to a drill through page instead. A drill through page behaves like a regular page so the user can scroll, filter and copy values, which fits this scenario better than a tooltip.

If this works for you, kindly mark it as the solution and give a thumbs up.

  • Hi RichFlorida,

Report-page tooltips aren't interactive — Power BI renders them as a static image on hover, so there's no way to scroll into them. The extra rows just get cut off. A few options:

    1. Increase the tooltip page height (Canvas settings → Type = Custom) — fine if you know the max rows, not reliable if that count is large or unknown.

    2. Drill-through page — most reliable regardless of row count, scrolls normally. Just note it's a right-click action, not a hover.

    3. Top N filter on the matrix — best if you want to keep the hover and skip drill-through.

    4. Split the matrix into two tables side by side — niche, only if the max count is small and fixed.

    Hope it helps
