Mandatory section start in Power BI Desktop

Recent versions of Power BI Desktop now require sign-in for many features, especially when working with anything cloud-related (like publishing reports or accessing files from OneDrive).

Here are a few things you can try:

1. Sign in once when opening Power BI Desktop to avoid repeated prompts.

2. Make sure your session is saved — sometimes you're signed out due to security policies or issues with embedded browser cookies.

3. If you're only working locally, consider using an older version of Power BI Desktop (prior to 2023), where sign-in wasn’t enforced.

4. Check with your organization if they allow using Power BI as a local user — but note this will limit access to some features.

Unfortunately, Microsoft is gradually removing support for unsigned use, to push users toward full cloud integration.
