Hello,
We are trying to apply RLS on a report. That report is connect to a Power BI dataset.
The 'manage roles' button is disabled. Looked online and this was not displayed as a limitation. Does this work?
Thanks,
Dan
Solved! Go to Solution.
Thanks Xue
Figured this out - documentation was not completely clear.
If you are using Power BI Datasets (which we are) you need to set security at the dataset level (per above thread - uses import) and then reports which reference that Dataset will have the proper RLS.
Thanks,
Dan
Hi @dancarr22
It is a limitation to manage roles using live connection. Only ETL and DirectQuery connections are supported. You can try to open this report in Power BI desktop ,and then manage roles.
Other limitations you can reference the Doc.
Best Regards,
Xue Ding

How do you do that?
Download the dataset file, open in Power BI desktop and use the Manage Roles button.
