Major problem: Can't connect to PostgreSQL in new version

We use a postgres database (Azure managed database).

Since the last desktop update - Version: 2.137.751.0 64-bit (October 2024)

We are getting an error on our postgres data sources:

"We couldn't authenticate with the credentials provided"

The credentials are correct, and work on previous versions of PBI desktop.

When clicking edit credentials we receive the error

"Encryption Support

We were unable to connect to the data source using an encrypted connection. To access this data source using an unencrypted connection, click OK"

Clicking OK removes the encrypted flag from the datasource and returns the "We couldn't authenticate with the credentials provided"

Hello Everyone!

I encountered the same issue after installing the October version of Power BI. Reinstalling the September version resolved it for me.

Thank you!

Same issue, spoke with support and downgraded with them on the call to show that it was in fact the update that broke it. Thanks for the suggestions!

Just had a support call, and it seems this is likely to be a bug with the latest version. They are reporting it to the product team.

OK - thanks for the link (slightly confusing as the highlighted download section for each version linked to the latest version rather than the specific version - yes as you say the links are at the end of each section).

Reverting to the Sept version fixes this issue.

Version: 2.136.1478.0 64-bit (September 2024)

Looks like a bug introduced in the October version somehow - I've raised a support ticket around this.

Yes, it is an issue with october release, you can revert back the changes.

Untill the issue fixes in latest release, you can use the september release. if this issue fixes, please accept it as solution.

Thank you.

Hi, is there a ticket or another post we can follow up to know when this gets resolved? I'm worried we can't use this connector with the latest versions. Thanks.

Hi all,

The product team created this ICM internally and engineers are investigating this issue. If there is any news, I will synchronize it below.

Hi @andyclap - If Power BI is asking you to remove the encryption flag.If the PostgreSQL server does not support encrypted connections, ensure it's configured correctly for unencrypted connections (but note this may introduce security risks).

Since the problem appeared after the October 2024 update, you can temporarily roll back to a previous Power BI Desktop version that worked. Download earlier versions from the Microsoft Download Center or Power BI's official site.

crosscheck , your Azure PostgreSQL version is compatible with the latest Power BI Desktop updates. Some TLS-related changes or driver updates might cause compatibility issues.

The database is an azure managed database.

The previous version of powerBI desktop was connecting OK, and no other app is having problems (PowerBI service is OK).

(Edit - found link to older version in provided link, trying older version now).
