Local API and published reports

Hello,

We have an API that can only be used internally.

Indeed, we have a local server which makes data available via an API. The goal is to request this API.

It works very well with a PowerBI desktop, but when publishing the report, the data cannot be updated.

How to request this API without making it available on the Internet?

Can the PowerBI Gateway do the job?

Thanks.

    Hi solid38 ,

According to your description, you want to connect the data from local api in your security environment.

So in the external internet, the power BI service can not access the data from your data source.

So , you need to download a gateway to try.

The on-premises data gateway acts as a bridge to provide quick and secure data transfer between on-premises data (data that isn't in the cloud) and several Microsoft cloud services. These cloud services include Power BI, PowerApps, Power Automate, Azure Analysis Services, and Azure Logic Apps. By using a gateway, organizations can keep databases and other data sources on their on-premises networks, yet securely use that on-premises data in cloud services.

For the gateway features and how to install , you can refer to(I suggest you to install the “standard gateway”) :
What is an on-premises data gateway? | Microsoft Learn

Power BI Gateway | Microsoft Power BI

And if in your network environment, it has a proxy , you also need to update the configuration files in the data gateway , for this , you can refer to :
Configure proxy settings for the on-premises data gateway | Microsoft Learn

    Best Regards,
