Live Connection reports - best practice?

Hello Community  -  I have always built import models but am now expanding into using Mixed mode models (import + DQ).

These mixed datasets will be published to the service for to be consumed by others as well.

But for the reports I build myself, what is the best practice...to build them using Desktop, or to build them in the service?    It seems like when building a report connected to a live dataset, I almost always get a visual that for some reason just randomly stops being able to show data.  Makes it difficult to complete a report in the desktop environment.

I had also thought that if I built and published report, and did not make any changes to the model itself, that I I made changes to that report in the service, those changes would show up back in the desktop version when refreshed.

In general, where is the best environment to create live connection models?   Desktop or Service?

@Anonymous,

I recommend developing reports in Power BI Desktop. If you develop a report in Power BI Service that is sourced from a published dataset, and that published dataset gets deleted and republished, the report will be broken with no way to repoint it to the new published dataset. This is due to the fact that datasets are based on GUIDs, not names. Power BI Desktop, however, gives you the option to repoint a report to a different published dataset. This was a frustrating discovery, resulting in my team having to recreate all reports that had been developed online. If you want to avoid the possibility of having to recreate reports, then use Power BI Desktop.
