Backround:
I have a fairly large dataset that I aggregate into groups. The data is based on counties in US states on a monthly basis over a period of about 13 years. This yields 12 data points per county per year (1 per month). Sometimes the quantity of counties I have in my dataset is relatively small (<10), but it can exceed 100 in some cases.
Issue:
I use Power BI's line chart as a way to assess any radical changes in the data. Here's where the problem I'm encountering is:
-When using a date hierarchy scaled out to year, the maximum number of series that Power BI will display on a line chart is 60
-Drilling down to the lowest level of the date data truncates the display at 22 series (first alphabetically)
-Removing the date hierarchy all together truncates the display at 22 series (first alphabetically)
There is no warning that the data being displayed are less than the total number of groups in the original data. There is also no warning that the data have been truncated to 22 upon removing the hierarchy. I have not been able to find any tickets/documentation mentioning this behavior.
I find it difficult to work with Power BI due to this behavior. Excel can graph ~250 series simultaneously on a line chart, I want to believe that I'm missing something in Power BI that is causing this. Any ideas on a way to increase the number of series?
Although it might seem unreasonable that I want to see this many series together, it is very useful for the specific data quality checks I'm attempting to perform.
I created a .csv that contains an example dataset with arbitrary groups, data, and date values. I can share that data to exhibit this problem, but I'm not sure how to post it on this forum. Any idea on how to share the file are appreciated, and any suggestions on how to work around/fix this issue are also very welcome!
(I'm running this on Power BI Desktop, just updated to the most recent version today)
