Limiting data sources

Hello!

We are trying to give some users access to viewing data from a database (in our MSSQL server). It is simple enough to do it manually, but they would be able to open any other database in our server (which works on AD logon).

So the question is finding a way to either force PBI to launch with a preselected connection to the correct database, or limiting (preventing) users from connecting to any other database.

Is this possible?

Thanks!

PS: AD Access to the other databases is required because of the software we work with, so altering this is not a possibility.

    Hi FSCGeeks,

Power BI Desktop is a client tool to connect to data source. It’s not supported to set permission for users to connect to data source. All permission settings need to be set on data source side.

In your scenario, as users are granted permission to access SQL Server databases, they can also connect to those databases in Power BI Desktop. We are not able to limit users to connect to a specified database.

If you have any question, please feel free to ask.

    Best Regards,
