Limiting Access According to Audience

Hello

I have published a PBI report that provides KPI/Metric data relating to our Field Service function.  I have just learnt that, due to GDPR rules, managers should only be able to see performance data for individuals that they are directly responsible for, and technicians should only be able to see their own data, or data at a whole team/country level.

Currently, each page of the report has slicers that allow the user to filter by individual technician, or by team, or by country.   Is there a way to publish this report so that certain managers can only view certain data?  Perhaps locking slicers dependent on the user?  I can't think of how else to solve this issue, other than creating lots of different reports.

Many Thanks in advance

It should be in the article, further down: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/enterprise/service-admin-rls#manage-security-on-your-mode...

Log into PBI service > go to the workspace you've published the report to > go to the dataset > more options ellipsis > select security. Then you can add users to whatever roles you have set up.

Hi @CMoppet ,

You can do this with 'Row Level Security' which you can learn about here: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/enterprise/service-admin-rls

Hope this helps!

I've successfully set up roles, but I'm stuck on assigning those roles to individual names.  The text states this can be done in PBI Services....but I can't see where to do this.  Please can you assist?  Thank you

Your explanation was much simpler and worked immediately!  Thank you very, very much

Ooo...I'll have a read!  I wasn;t sure what search term to use.  Thank you 🙂
