License clarifications

Hi All,

I need some help on power bi licensing

In my organization we all have pro license, on the other hand some of the users have premium per capacity license to a dedicated workspace.

Now, we got a new project of migration from SSRS to Power BI reports, where we add the .rdl files into power bi report builder and publish and share them.

We need clarification on should we go for premium capacity for creating paginated reports in report builder ?

We have installed power bi report builder and are able to create reports and publish them with pro also is this because we have premium per capacity in our organization ?

What license we need for this new project or we do not need any license?

please help

Thanks in Advance

Neelofar.

If you already have a premium capacity, then all you need to do is assign the workspace where the paginated reports live to that premium capacity. Your Pro users can create and share RDL reports in that premium workspace.

If you do not have a premium capacity and are using premium per user (PPU) licensing, then only users with a PPU license can access the PPU workspace where the RDLs live.

Hi @AlexisOlson ,

Thank you for the reply, can you also clarify me one more thing.

We are using pro license, and are able to create the RDL reports also we are abe to subscribe and share these reports also with other users.

is there still a neccesity to go for premium.

I'm not sure I understand the question. Paginated reports are a premium level feature but if your Pro users are already able to share RDL reports with other Pro users, then you must already have a premium capacity and nothing further is needed (since you're already at the premium level).

In other words, if you have a premium capacity, then you don't need to worry about PPU at all. PPU exists for smaller organizations that can't afford a full premium capacity.

@Anonymous , For paginated reports you need a premium workspace. Either PPU or Premium capacity.

It think you should be able to share among PPU

If there are too many PPU users, then you can go for capacity
