Hi Darrenj -Sometimes, newer versions of Power BI come with updates that may require more memory, especially if there are new features or performance improvements affecting how data is imported. The recent update might have changed how it handles memory allocation or data loading for Excel files.

try to disable few setting, like Disable Background Data Load: In Power BI Desktop, go to Options > Data Load and disable Background Data Load. This might reduce memory consumption during import.Data Preview Options: Go to Options > Data Load > Type Detection and disable Automatically detect column types and headers for unstructured sources.

you could temporarily revert to the December 2023 version to confirm whether the issue is indeed specific to the October 2024 version. If it works fine, then you can be confident it’s an issue with the latest version or report the issue to Microsoft so they can address it in the next update.
