LIVE DATA CONNECTION ISSUE

Hi,

 

In my laptop I have created one Dashboard report , with data from SQL server using direct query option.  Have completed the dashboard and uploaded to app.powerbi.com to share with my organisation.   

 

I also have created a gateway with sql server credentials and applied to the dataset.

 

The dashboard gets live data from our SQL server and is working fine.

 

Now the issue is,

Once I switch off the Laptop, the dashboard is not loaded and gives an error as 

" The data source is inaccessible because the gateway *********** is unreachable".

 

Should my Laptop be in ON condition through out the day or is there any solution for this?

    Hey srkase ,

     

    where did you install the gateway? I guess on your notebook, right?

    In DirectQuery mode whenever someone is opening the report or clicking something in the report, the Power BI Service will contact the Gateway and the Gateway will query the datasource and send the values to the Service. That's the idea behind DirectQuery as the name says already.

     

    For that reason the gateway should be installed on a server or computer that is always available in your company. Never install a productive gateway on a personal notebook. Not only when you finished working, the report will not be available, also when you're sick, you're on holiday, you reboot and so on.
