Issue with line chart visualization with x axis date

Trying to make a line chart with the x axis containing date. The date is data type 'Date' with a m/d/yy format.

The intent to show score averages and trends over time. The score field goes into the 'Values' socket of the line chart.

For some reason, I cannot get the line chart to consolidate the scores on the same dates correctly and group the scores by dates.

The line chart below is what I am getting

After multiple hours of searching and tinkering, I figured it out.

The 'Expand all down one level in the hierachy' option in the top right of the line chart visualization help with this. Your date field will likely have to be in hierarchy mode to accomplish this.

The desired result would be to have the averages of the scores shown per day, over time.

With the x axis being the date and the y value being the scores, it will plot every score on the line chart rather than just the average. That is why the picture shows the line chart going vertical on days with multiple scores.

It seems there should be a simple way to group the scores for each day and average them out.
