Is there a way to get less data in the desktop version?

Hello everyone!

I've been working with PowerBI for a while, maybe 2 years (though it's not the core of my job).

I have no formal training, sorry if the answer is obvious, but I have an issue at this point.

I work mostly with reasonnably-size data sets, but recently I've had to work on our CRM database, which is quite huge.

I can download the data on my desktop version, but it's getting slow to work with it.

My data source is sourced on the dataflows I configured.

Is there a way when I work with the desktop version to only get a subset from the data present on dataflows, but still have the whole set when I publish my report to the powerBI platform?

Thanks!

One good tip is to add a Keep Rows step (or filter to 1 or two categories, products, etc.) in the query for your big table(s) to greatly reduce the amount of data in the model while you are building.  Then just remove that step when you are done and before you publish.

If this works for you, please mark it as solution.  Kudos are appreciated too.  Please let me know if not.

Regards,

Pat

Hi @Anonymous ,

What connector do you use? If you are using SQL Server or ODBC, you could write T-SQL script to get part of data.

@amitchandak  : Sorry I may have missed something but what's the relationship with the versions of PowerBI?

@v-xuding-msft  : Thanks for your answer, I can do that but when I publish to the powerBI platform I will have to revert to getting all the data inside the report, won't I ?
