Hi @lastnn30 ,

As @ebeery  mentioned, Power BI Desktop and Power BI Service are two seperate elements of Power BI.

The most common uses for Power BI Desktop are as follows:

  • Connect to data
  • Transform and clean that data, to create a data model
  • Create visuals, such as charts or graphs, that provide visual representations of the data
  • Create reports that are collections of visuals, on one or more report pages
  • Share reports with others by using the Power BI service

While Power BI service is a cloud-based service, which is mainly used to share and refresh.

Below shows the features that are unique to either the Desktop application or to the Power BI service:

Here are some points provided in the Microsoft documentation, please kindly refer to:

@lastnn30 Power BI Desktop and Power BI Service are two seperate elements of Power BI.  I don't think it would be accurate to say "Power BI service is part of Power BI Desktop".

I would recommend referring to this documentation which describes the differences.

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/fundamentals/power-bi-overview#the-parts-of-power-bi

Thank you for your reply and the link. I am going to read the link now. But I really should not have said part of Power BI, maybe I wanted to say, PowerBI uses Power BI service to publish reports. Thank you.
