Introducing PBIGenie — A New Visual Platform for Power BI Creators using NO DAX

Hi Everyone,

I’ve been working on a new visual platform for Power BI creators called PBIGenie, and I wanted to share one of the visual modes we’ve been developing — the Floating Dot Variance Bar.

The goal of PBIGenie is to give creators more flexibility while saving dev time when creating and presenting Actual vs Budget, Target, and Variance‑based insights, while keeping the visuals clean, modern, and easy to interpret - without using any DAX

Here’s an example of the Floating Dot Variance Bar in action:

I’d love to hear your thoughts, feedback, or suggestions from the community.

If you’d like to see PBIGenie in action, here’s a short demo video:

Thanks for taking a look — appreciate the Power BI community and everything you all share.

Regards

  • HI PBIGenie,

This looks really impressive! The Floating Dot Variance Bar gives a very clean and modern way to present Actual vs Budget insights. I especially like the focus on reducing DAX complexity while still allowing flexibility and creativity in dashboard design. Great initiative, and wishing PBIGenie all the best. Looking forward to seeing more features and visuals from your platform!

    Thank you.

  • Thanks for the Kudos guys. Really appreciate it. The Genie will not only save dashboard developers time but will allow them to have the freedom to be creative with the visual and best of all - no time spent on DAX gymnastics.

      Hi v‑sgandrathi,

Thanks so much for reaching out — really appreciate the warm welcome and the support from the Fabric Community team.

I’m excited to share PBIGenie with the community and contribute wherever I can, especially around visual design and simplifying variance reporting without any DAX.

The Genie was born from an idea to give users more design freedom than what’s available in the current ecosystem.

I know from experience that time is always a factor when developing dashboards, and if the Genie platform can save users time alone — that’s already a win.

Please feel free to let me know if there are any guidelines, expectations, or opportunities to add value — I’m more than happy to align with the community standards.

Thanks again for the message and for everything you and the team do to keep this community running so well.

      Regards,

      The Genie
