Inputs needed on best practice using a date table on facts and dimension tables.

I would like to get some inputs from you guys, on what is best practice when using a Date table.

I use direct query to a already established datawarehouse, that have a date table with an INT ID column and many dimension and fact tables that do not have date and time datatypes but references to that date table.

I can't figure out the correct way to get Date and time into the Dimension and facts tables. Some dimension tables has multiple dates, like an order dimension has both delivery date and picking date.

I got the Merge Queries in power query editor working for a single date ind a table, but I would like confirmation if this is the way to go or not.
