Hi All ,
We are planning to move from Tableau to PowerBI.
In Tableau we have published 100's of Individual datasets as our datasource and these Individual datasets are blended with each other as per the report requirement.
Now as per our migration plan to PowerBI from Tableau.
1. One option is to replicate what we have in Tableau Currently. Import all these tables as Individual PowerBI datasets , Build local models using Direct query and only consider the datasets required in a report for the particular approach.
2. Another option is to identify related tables and publish them together as a dataset , This will ensure that for majority of our reports we can use a single dataset with live connections . We can create multiple such datasets based on our requirements
Can you please suggest the pros and cons of both approaches, Also any alternate approach that may be better than the above mentioned approaches ?
I really appreciate the help
@Vivek26 , My Advice would be to create a large data model in power bi catering to the subject area's needs. There can be more than one model/files. Once publish you can use such dataset as source for creating power bi data model in Live mode
You can also use dataflows as as per need
