Incremental refresh data
- Firstly you need to make sure you have purchased the Power BI Premium license.
- You need to assign Premium to the Workspace you will be hosting your Power BI report in.
- You need to select the "Publish" button on your Power BI Desktop, found in the Home Ribbon.
- Select your workspace with premium from the "Publish to Power BI" window.
- Find your report in the Power BI Service, head into "Schedule Refresh". Configure any gateways that might be required
- Use the "Refresh Now" option to have the Power BI Service grab the initial complete dataset
- Once the refresh completes, select "Refresh Now" again. This should complete much faster, and is a good indication that your incremental refresh is working.
Incremental Refresh does not work inside Power BI Desktop. Power BI Desktop is required to configure the incremental refresh method.
i have no power bi premium license. if it is required then why this option is coming in right click on table.

But this link is not Saying that we must have license..

The Power BI Desktop doesn't have a method of checking whether your intended workspace uses Power BI premium. That check is performed as part of the Publishing method. It was also mentioned in the documentation you would have read up to this point. You are also instructed about this on the Incremental Refresh screen when you configured the refresh options.

Yes it does. Not only was it in the URL of your supplied link, its in the window of the graphic that pops up first on that page. It is also in the very first sentance of the article as well as the Title of the article:

what is power bi premium

This should explain it. Pricing starts around the $5,000 USD per month mark.

kindly tell me another way for incremetal data refresh.it is totally depend on license.

There isn't one. Incremental refresh is very new and still considered a preview feature. So far they have only released the version for Premium. No other option exists within Power BI itself.

Hey panipat1990,
so it seems, that the most essential part is missing to utilize the benefits of incremetal refresh - the Power BI Premium dedicated capacity. This is what I mentioned in my first reply.
But MSFT already mentioned that they are considering to make this feature available for Power BI Pro users.
Be aware of the two things:
- there is no date available when Incremental Refresh will be available for Power BI Pro
- Incremental Refresh will never work in Power BI Desktop

one doubt is that power bi premium is setup or not..
If it is set up then what is power bi desktop so difference bewteen power bi desktop and power bi premium

Hey,
as Anonymous already mentioned, Power BI Desktop is a self-service BI tool that can be used for the following two aspects
- personal data anaylsis
- development tool to author (publish) reports to Power BI service
Certain tasks of the above mentioned aspects may overlap
I urgently recommend to get accquainted with Power BI Service:
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/service-get-started
Read this carefully until the end also follow recommended next readings.
For now Incremental Refresh is a feature that is supported just by Power BI Premiumn (one licensing sku) from the Power BI Service offering. The configuration of Incremental Refresh is one of the tasks of the two aspects of Power BI Desktop

Hey panipat1990,
I guess this will get you started with your question "What is Power BI Report Server?":
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/report-server/get-started
Read this carefully and until the end and also read
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/report-server/compare-report-server-service
Please be aware that for now a separate Power BI Desktop version is needed
- to save Power BI reports
- created with Power BI Desktop
- to Power BI Report Server
Please accept one of Anonymous or mine answers regarding the incremental refresh issues as an answer and start a new thread regarding the different products.
I also urgently recommend to read the free ebook "Power BI from Rookie to Rock Star" that is available here:
