Incorrect data representation in Power BI

Hello,

I am using SQL report to create a visual that gives me YoY, QoQ, MoM and DoD trend. I am using Timeline to select timeframe and a line chart to show the trend.

The report contains data/rows on a daily basis, i.e. it has daily data starting from Jan'16 till Current Date. Now I am using date column in Axis on Line Chart and other two columns as values.

When I select everything in the timeline i.e. from Jan'16 to Apr'17 and click on "Go to next level in hierarchy", it takes me down from Year-Level to Quarter-Level. Now the issue is, it automatically adds the numbers of Jan'16, Feb'16, Mar'16 with Jan'17, Feb'17, Mar'17 and shows in Q1. This is very misleading as it shows Q1 way too higher that other quarters as it adds the data of Q1 2016 and Q1 2017.

Another this is, if I select "M" in Timeline and then select months - Dec'16, Jan'17, Feb'17, it shows data in order of Jan-Feb-Dec while it should be Dec-Jan-Feb.

Please help on how to deal with this. It is very Business Critical.

Thanks,

Swapnil

Hi, @swapnilsd08,

I'm having the same issue, it's a misrepresentation of data. Did you find a way tofix this problem?

Hi @swapnilsd08,

When we drill down all fields at once from Year level to Quarter level use this button pbi_drillall.png, all data will be grouped by the Quarter values, so for Q1 it will display total values from both Q1 2016 and Q1 2017. This is same when you select months - Dec'16, Jan'17, Feb'17, it will group by Month ignore Year, so the order is Jan, Feb, Dec.

You can try to use the drill down one field at a time power-bi-drill-icon2.png or Expand all down one level in the hierarchy power-bi-drill-icon6.png. See: Drill down in a visualization in Power BI.
