Improve "Creating connection in model..." Performance?

I'm connecting PowerBi to a database through an ODBC driver, however the "Creating connection in model" phase of the query takes a disproportionately long amount of time compared to actually loading the rows(~15 minutes?). Does anyone have any tips to speed this up? Or is this just somethingthat would be determined by the driver, without any way to speed it up?

    What is your data source? Reason I asked, why you want to use ODBC in case PowerBI has direct connection to your data source?

        OOps, sorry have no experience with that, seems like ODBC the way to go and not sure what can be done to improve the performance. Hope someone else can help you.
