Importing files from Sharepoint gives error

I am currently working on a project based on an old powerbi document that imports data from a sharepoint folder. This seems to work without issues.

When i create a new document and import files from the exact same sharepoint URL it seems to give errors relating to “non-matching data types” (niet-overeenkomende typen gedetecteerd).

Does anyone know why this could be the case and what i could possibly look at?

P.s. I am new to PowerBI

P.p.s. I have a Dutch version of PowerBI so perhaps some terms that I’ve used might not exactly match with the English version of PowerBI

Hi @123Kristel

The error message you're getting about "non-matching data types" usually means that Power BI is trying to combine or append tables/columns where the data types are not aligned – for example, trying to merge a column formatted as text with another formatted as date or number.

Since you're working with a Dutch version of Power BI, it's also possible that regional settings (such as date formats – dd/mm/yyyy vs. mm/dd/yyyy) or number delimiters (comma vs. dot) are causing mismatches in the new file, even if the SharePoint source is the same.

I’d recommend the following steps:

  1. Open one of the working files and one of the new files side by side.

  2. Compare the data types of the columns, especially those involved in merge/append operations.

  3. Make sure they match exactly (e.g., both are "Text", or both are "Date").

  4. Also check if Power Query is applying any automatic "Changed Type" steps that might be misinterpreting the columns due to locale settings – you can remove or manually adjust them.

To help further, we’d need to see a screenshot or copy of the error details and ideally some examples of the source data and the steps you're using in Power Query. If this post helps, then please consider Accepting it as the solution to help the other members find it more quickly

Can you show a sanitized version of your Power Query code?  What does "imports data"  mean?  Are you trying to combine CSV files from a folder?
