Imported and manually entered data

Hi,

I'm currently working on a small private project. Creating a budget book with Power BI.

One source is the export of my online banking as CSV. I am converting this flat file into a star schema.

Now I would like to work with categories (household, leisure time, etc.). Of course, these categories do not appear in the CSV. The first thing I would like to do is create a dimension table with all the categories. I can automatically link some bookings to categories. For example, the monthly rent payment is always category "Household". For some entries, however, I would have to assign the category manually.

How would you proceed here?

Have a nice day

  • You can create a custom column in your current table.  Something similar to the example.. sorry using products.  Hope you get the idea.

If you just want to create a separate table then all you need to do is create a referrence copy of your table and then remove all they columns and just leave the category and then group by it so you only get each item once.  Then create a custom column.

      Hello,

Thank you. I apologise for only getting back to you now.

Yes, I am aware of that.

I'm looking for a way to combine this "automatic" adjustment with a manual one.

There are postings where I can specify in advance which category it is, as in your example, because they are recurring postings.

However, I would also like to be able to decide freely for bookings and enter the category manually.

      Have a nice day.

      Michael
