Import table from another PBI model

Hi

I am in a situation where I need to import one table from another PBI model. The table is built from several data sources and I would hate to import it all and redo all the queries to make a duplicate.

I don't see why it shouldn't be possible to just point to that table and import it to my other model? But how??

Any updates on this?

DAX Studio (Version 2.11.2) has an Export option. You can choose CSV and import in your new PBIX file.

I had to remove some relations in the model first to export the fact table. Why this was needed I don't know. 1.7 M rows exported like a charm.

Hi @Anonymous

It is impossible to import data from another power bi file.

You could publish power bi to Power BI Service, then connect to Power BI service dataset with Power BI Desktop, but in this way, it is a live connection.

Hi Maggie

Thanks for your reply.

I am aware of that possiblility, but does it mean I can't import it to a model with other data (which is the present usecase)?

Best,

Lars

Hi @Anonymous

Could you tell more about your scenario?

For example, i download a pbix with some data i'd like very much.

But i have no access to the data sources this file use,

thus, when i open the Edit queries, i can't see data and steps applied.

I have another pbix file with my data, i want to load data from the pbix above.

Is my assumption right?

If not, please illustrate your scenario with more details.

Best Regards
Maggie

Hi Maggie

I have access to recreate the data, but I just find it easier to reuse the queries I already have made in the other model. It is one table created from a total of 15 different queries sourcing from a number of different tables and doing a lot of quite advanced stuff.

So I would spare myself the trouble of bringing all the queries into my other model if I could just get the resulting table. Having the queries dublicated would also mean that I  would have to maintain them in two different models, instead of just one.

Does it make sense?
