Hi!
I'm trying to connect to the server with import mode, using alternate credentials (domain\user). Unfortunately, there is a error: 'We couldn't authenticate with the credentials provided. Please try again'
The credentials I'm provided are valid and correct.
I also tried it with other usernames, who have access to the server, but there is the same error. The error is also present for my other colleagues.
I've searched this forum and the solutions provided here are not working in this case. The server allows remote connections and I cannot open Power BI as administrator (it's a company's laptop).
Could you please advise some other solution?
Hi @Anonymous ,
I'm struggling with a similar problem.
Can you check the setting of the "Enable computer and user accounts to be trusted for delegation policy"?

Hi @Anonymous ,
Could you please check if it is possible to connect this Analysis Server from the same machine using SSMS with same credentials that used in Power BI Desktop?
If there is no problem with the connection to SSAS, please try to clear the permissions of this Analysis Server Data Source in Power BI Desktop (File - Options and Settings - Data source settings) and try to connect it again.
Best regards,
Hi @v-lid-msft
I can connect to this Analysis Server in SSMS with the same credentails and I already cleared permissions in Power Bi Desktop before trying to connect again. Unfortunetly, it didn't help
Hi @Anonymous ,
What is the last time that you connect to this AS with Power BI Desktop successfully? We notice that this issue happen in Import mode, Does it happen in the Live Connect Mode also? What is the version of Power BI Desktop you are using?
Please don't have any Confidential Information or Real data in your reply.
Best regards,
The connection was working without any issues until 30th of January (there wasn't any change with server or anything), using Import Mode.
There is no problem with Live Connection, but there is no way to use alternate credentials with Live Connection (it takes me straight to the Navigator).
I can connect using import mode using my current credentials (no issue there).
Power BI Version: 2.75.5649.961 32-bit (November 2019)
Hi @Anonymous ,
Does this issue have been resolved? The Alternate credentials works on my side, could you please try to reproduce this issue on the latest version of Power BI Desktop? We test with the version: 2.78.5740.721 64-bit (February 2020)
Best regards,
@Anonymous what system are you connecting to? have you tried to access it outside of power bi
