Import data from excel without keeping connection to the source

Hi,

So this question has been asked before (for example see https://community.powerbi.com/t5/Desktop/Import-an-Excel-and-keep-data-within-PIBX/m-p/944892#M45282...).

However the solution for previous questions did not solve my issue (uncheck the refresh button). I imported data from a local (on my computer) excelfile and combined it with data from another source. The excelfile contains historicaldata and will never be changed.

Is there a way to import data from excel to PBI without creating a connection to the source?

A connection to a local file leads to issues with PBI update schedule.

Can't you host the file in OneDrive as per my second suggestion?

If it's in the OneDrive cloud, you don't need a Gateway. Just set it up as is shown in the video

You can copy and paste the data into a table, but there is a limit to the number of rows you can copy (which I can't recall now)

If the local file is an issue, you can setup the connection to the file hosted in OneDrive (has to be the professional version). The file will be automagically "updated" approx. once and hour, so you can more or less forget about it...

Here is how you set it up (video from the gurus at Guy in a Cube)

Thank you for your reply.

Unforturnatley the limit is 3000 cells for copy and paste so this doesn't really help me.
