I am trying to add a custom font (in this case Proxima Nova Rg) to PBI desktop by adding it to the jason theme file (as in https://whatthefact.bi/power-bi/using-enterprise-or-custom-fonts-in-power-bi/ for example).
However it does not seem to work. The theme file is added sucessfully and the custom font can be picked in the selection list but report is using another font (my guess reverting to a default font, i have tested a dummy font name and got the same result).
What can possibly be wrong? I have read that "If the PC has not installed the font, the font cannot be displayed." but in my case I have the font (Proxima Nova Rg) available in word/excel which should mean that the font is installed?

Hey @Anonymous ,
you have to make sure the font is exactly called how it's installed in windows. In the blog article mentioned it has to be "MiddleEarth" and not "Middle Earth" for example. For you it might be that "Proxima Nova" is registered as "Proxima Nova Rg".
To do that go to C:\Windows\Fonts and copy the exact naming of the font you want to use and paste it in the JSON.
Hi @Anonymous, did you find a solution for the font rendering correctly when exporting? I have the same issue for ppt and pdf.
Same as you, I have imported the custom font correctly and it displays correctly in Desktop and Service.
I have a follow up question.
It works fine in desktop and web service
However, I get the same issues as before when I export to ppt from the web service

Hi Denis,
Thanks for the suggestion, but I am using the exact font name in the json as present in the windows, still it's not importing in the Power BI. Showing a default font.
Check out the July 2025 Power BI update to learn about new features.
