How to use the SharePoint DocumentID-Link as a way to import files in PowerBI

Hello,

currently, we use the sharepoint path to import excel files into power bi, but that breaks when we move files.

-> Is it possible to use the link provided by the sharepoint document id instead to import excel files into BI? When I try that, it says it expects a filename ending...

Hi @mschum8488 ,

Open the excel from sharepoint in the Excel desktop app, go to the Info section and Copy Path.

In Power BI choose Get Data and select Web. Paste the copied URL in and delete the ?web=1. From there its just like you were connected to a local Excel file.

Hi Stephen,

unfortunately, your solution uses the path but not the document ID. I cannot use the path because that changes when someone changes the structure. Document id would make access independent from the path.
