How to un-remove items from a chart (i.e. Show All)

If I right click on specific items in a power bi chart, I'm able to remove certain items:

Once removed, I see no way to un-do the remove, and show all items.   Is it possible such a seemingly simple task is not possible in Power Bi?  In any event, it should not be this difficult to accomplish this.....but such seems to be the case for many Power Bi tasks.

Hi  @mossshvlw  ,

If an item is deleted directly with remove, you can use Ctrl + Z to restore it

I'm constantly surprised at how difficult these simple tasks are in power bi.  I accidentally removed a category and would like to put it back in.  There appears to be no way to do this.  Logically it seems like if they give you the ability to take something away, you should be able to add it again.  control z does not work as this item was removed awhile ago.

I don't want to rebuild the entire chart unless I absolutely need to, which seems dumb.

ok so you had a visual set up with a category and removed it by mistake, sometime later you noticed and couldn't get it back.   The best way to manage these situations is via backups.    So you can more easily get these things back.   Why were you not able to put the category back in?  was it a calculation you deleted?

Its seems perfectly normal to me that if you remove something its gone.   However like i say the best way to manage any changes in any development environment not mattter how small is via backups and version control so you can get something back.

I'm sorry, but to me, that does not seem normal or user-friendly in the least.  I would think removing a category (not realizing you can't get it back) is probably an expected part of many users' workflow.  And no, this is not a calculated measure or anything like that, the data is literally is in my table, it just will not render in the chart since I removed it at one point.

I'd also have to ask, what is the point then of right-clicking on the table and having the view hidden/unhide all options?

I don't mean to sound bitter, but it's things like this that will make me choose literally any software over Power Bi.

oh that is very interesting, i didn't realise you meant you literally couldn't add it back in.  That seems very odd.    You dont sound bitter, its just a case of understanding.  User friendly is the name of the game and of course power bi  is purposed for that but its definitely a work in progress.

I do not think though that i have had the same experience as you can you literally tell me the steps of what happened so i can understand better.

where did you remove the category from?   did you look in the relationship layout view.  when you hide a column you can only see it in that view.

@mossshvlw

its odd because i cant seem to remove just one value of a category with the remove function.   did you do an exclude maybe?   if you did an exclude you would find the filter to unremove it in the filter section, probably an obvious question but just checking that you checked there?  I excluded a category in this pie chart , if remove the exclude from the filters it will bring it back.

Thanks.  I did a "remove" after right clicking on the chart - see my photo in my post.

the only thing i can think of is something very strange happened as there is no way that i can see to remove one individual category with the remove function from a bar chart without removing the whole bar chart.  If you are able to share your pbix with the problematic visual that would be the best thing to do.

Thanks.  I'm not sure how else I can describe it.  Other than, I had a bar chart that displayed data from one field.  i.e. "Male", "Female", and "Other".  I hit "remove" on "Other" (see photo example above), and that category dissapears.  "Other" is still in the field itself.  There's just no way to add it back into the chart without re-building from scratch. I've even tried removing the fields from the visual and re-adding them : nope, it's gone forever.

You can see that with a more complicated example, not having this ability is extremely problematic.  Which is why to me, Power Bi still sucks.

if you remove something you have taken it off.  When are you wanting to put items back did you meant to filter rather?   Maybe removing is not the best method for what you want to accomplish.  can you provide a screenshot of what you are doing and explain why you are using remove. somees a control + z will do the trick.
