Consider my sample table below:

So, when I create my chart, the graph will show data from all 4 attributes separately. However, I would like to just show the first attribute's chart and have the users filter via a slicer later on.

You can set the default value for the slicer and publish the report.
The visual effect that users see before filtering is as follows.

I had set the attribute field as legend; but that gave me separate lines (according to their attributes). Without it being legend, it shows a single line with values summed up by date.
