How to provide expansion/explanation of abbreviations in columns

Hi, 

I have several columns that pull data from an SQl db, and the data is text data type and represent certain abbreviations. What's the best way to make this data understandable for an end-user, to expand these abbreviations?

Or create a calculated column using the switch

[column] ="AB","ABC BCD",
