How to prevent power query editor from reloading data everytime steps are modified

Hi,

I was wondering how do I stop Power query editor  (in Power BI desktop) from reloading / refreshing the data everytime I update a step in the applied step section?

Sometimes I need to edit the intermediate steps in the applied steps section (e.g. need to import more fields, remove ones no longer required, etc.). It would constantly reload the data or refresh the preview and I would spend more time waiting for it to finish instead of developing reports. If I disable the auto refresh, I could save significantly more time.

Hi  @jasonyeung87 ,

When you open Query Editor in power bi desktop, select the table that you do not want to refresh, right click it and disable Include in report refresh (it is active by default), close and apply Query Editor and the table will not refresh when the report is refreshed.

Hi @jasonyeung87 ,

I found a similar thread here on powerbi.com:

Solved: Stop Power Query from reloading from source each s... - Microsoft Power BI Community

The accepted solution points to this link here:

Speed up the PowerBI and Power Query design process – The BIccountant

The idea is to add a filter during deevelopment in order to only load in a subset of the data.

Let me know if this helps 🙂
