How to export visuals to excel with formatting
In the desktop version, I do not see 'export to excel', just 'export data' which creates a csv file that loses the formatting.
In the online service, I can export to excel but it loses most of the formatting and it doesn't even show all the rows in the matrix visual unless I manually expand them first. I also see 'analyse in excel' which just creates an empty pivot table in excel.
If I try to create a paginated report, I have to rebuild the entire visual again.
Is there really no efficient way of exporting visuals while maintaining formatting?

Currently, what you're asking for isn't possible. Data is exported as text, either as a table or in a somewhat pivoted format (if exported from the service), and formatting isn't preserved.
"Analyze in Excel" generates an empty pivot table that is directly connected to the model. You can add fields and measures from the model to the pivot table as needed.

There are certain limitation when we try to export data.1) Power BI Export to Excel from the service or desktop will export raw data (CSV), which does not preserve formatting.
2) To retain formatting and structure, you can use Paginated Reports, which are designed for print-quality exports.
3) Analyze in Excel will not preserve visual formatting, but it allows for data exploration through pivot tables.
4) Exporting as PDF can preserve the layout and formatting if you don’t need the data in an editable format.
If formatting is crucial in your workflow and you need an efficient solution, I highly recommend using Paginated Reports or exporting your report to PDF.Thanks
