I have a dataset that supports two reports. Because of some limitations with browser-based Power BI report editing, I wanted to download the report and use the Desktop editor to update it. I did this but, when I published the report, rather than updating my existing report, it created a new dataset and a new linked report. So I now have duplicate dataset and report, but the oringal dataset and report are unchanged. The new dataset is only linked to the new report; the second report is still linked to the old dataset.
How can I use the Desktop report editor to update an existing report?

Hi, try saving the report name exactly to what was published earlier in the service. While publishing the report from the desktop it would ask for replacing the existing report, by replacing it the new report will be reflected in the service.
@Anonymous Thanks - that was a useful pointer.
My dataset and report name are different (I renamed the dataset a while ago). It seems that, when publishing the updated report, the dataset name was reset to the report name and treated as a new dataset, and a new version of the report was created and linked to it.
I'm not sure whether the issue is caused by the dataset having a different name to the report, or whether renaming the dataset causes an issue. However, it has solved the problem for the moment.
