Based on your description, we recommend you to use a custom Visual - The xViz Gantt Chart.
It has several features that may meet your requirements:
- It can add more columns for categories and values to provide additional information.
- It can add Milestones to keep track of deliverables and major events.
- It apply different colors to nodes based on different rules to highlight the status.

atasgao Couple options. You could look for a third-party custom visual. Recent updates did add an X-Axis constant in the Analytics sub-pane. To get the overlap without custom visuals you could use stacked visuals (one on top of the other with background turned off on the top one)
