How to create a unified dashboard from multiple large Power BI semantic models without data
- 8 months ago
Hi AhmedYar,
I would suggest to use Power BI composite models to connect live to the existing semantic models via DirectQuery, pulling only the selected key metrics into a thin new model for the consolidated tabular dashboard. This reuses models as-is without data duplication or full re-extracts, leveraging monthly refreshes from the source models.

Extract only the required monthly metrics from each existing semantic model.
Store these incremental outputs in a central Delta Lake or Fabric Lakehouse table.
Append new monthly data to this table, creating a consolidated historical dataset.
Build the Power BI dashboard on top of this table for a unified view.
This approach avoids full data reloads, is scalable, and preserves existing models.
