Power BI Community,
I am attempting to analyze the costs for parking for my company. My data sets has multiple moving parts as it includes location, parking fee, and employee fee. My goal is to create a financial model to present to management to show them how much parking will cost the company if we park at location "X" and pay fee "X" and have the employee pay fee "X". Ideally I would like to easily alter the various variables during my presentation to show my audience the bottom line impact to the company. How may I move forward with creating this dashboard? I apologize for the vague explanation.
Regards,
Gus Dahu
its similar in concept to a segmentation tool I created for suppliers who would get scored on various attributes that could be flexed during the year or for what was strategically important at the time.
The solution I came up with, was to have a table for each of the variables with in my case the weightings of importance but in your case it will be some other type of metric. The tables for each attribute I made were a simple GENERATESERIES(start, end, increment) then for each table I made a measure with SELECTEDVALUE() so that when the tables were filtered in the filter pane (make sure its set to single select) it would flex the measure.
My only gripe was that, I couldnt cascade the GENERATESERIES() start or end values to be cut off by the SELECTEDVALUE() of a previous attribute. This meant I did need a tile to show if the total of the SELECTEDVALUE()'s was not equal to my weighting total.
The end result is a tool where we can easily assign values on the fly to segmentation which I suspect is what you are wanting to do.
I'm a Big Power BI user, but for something like this, Tableau seems a better solution.
Although, have a look at Bookmarks, that might be of easy use in a presentation!
