How to connect to only one table from PBI dataset (Direct Query) ?
I am also looking for this kind of functionality!
I only need one "result" table for each of several different source data sets to compare them in my "Master Comparison" Power BI file.
Right now I create this "result" table for each Dataset as a visual within Power BI Desktop and export the data to CSV.
This is not very efficient because of the lack of compression and the normalized form of the data.
Right now I am thinking about moving this step to Dax Studio: Using Summarizecolumns I create my result table in the granularity I need and export it as .xls . This at least does some compression on the data. I then import all those Excel into the Master Comparison.
The best solution would be to do this DAX Query into each source PBIX or online Data Set from within my Master comparison. It is my understanding that with direct query for power BI data sets you always import the whole model as you pointed out. THis gets very messy when you have several source data sets.
HOw perfect would it be to have some kind of data flow that can use DAX query to pull together data from different PBIX / Datasets ?!
Okay, so I think i found the solution!
If you try to load the Data Set into an EMPTY Project it will automatically load ALL the tables in the remote data set.
However, if you have one existing table already as a local model it will ASK you which tables you want to import!
Now my problem is: How can I get back to that table selection if i found out after the fact, that I forgot one ?
