How to connect to a Sharepoint shared folder?

Hi everyone,

A coworker shared a sharepoint folder with me (a folder from another organization) and I need to connect that folder to Power BI.

I tried to put the root URL, but it returns an error message and I can't make the connection.

Root URL:

https://companydomain-my.sharepoint.com/personal/coworker_user_companydomain

Message error:

Does anyone know what's going on and how to solve it?

Thanks

That URL is going to a OneDrive folder (which is hosted on SharePoint), and you likely don't have access to the "site" level even though you have access to the folder.  Two options - 1) move the folder to SharePoint where you both have access to the site level or 2) connect to the individual files through the Web connector and the file URL (after deleting "?web=1").

Regards,

Pat

That's odd.  You'll need to connect to the file with the account it was shared with, but if you can see it I assume you are.  You can ask the author to get the url and send it to you.  If you need to get going now, you can download to the file, build your report against the local copy, and then update the connection later (from Folder.Files to Web connector).

Pat

Hi @mahoneypat my model is already done, I just need to change the reference to Sharepoint because this is the file that will be updated. And so that I can schedule refreshes as well.

But thank you for your answers, this has already given me a way to proceed.

Now I'm going to try the first option and try to get access to the site.

Hi @mahoneypat I'm trying the second option, but I have no option to open in Excel or Embed. Look the image below:

Could the problem be related to my account? The sharepoint folder was shared with my personal account.
