How to change a slicer to a drop-down menu in Power BI November 2025 version?

Does anyone know how to add a drop-down list slicer/filter in Power BI Desktop November 2025 version?!

I have been researching this topic for hours and every solution I can find does not work. It looks like the Power BI November 2025 desktop version (Version: 2.149.1429.0 64-bit (November 2025)) removed the functionality. Here is what I have been told would work but doesn't:

  • Go to Visualiations -> Format visual-> slicer settings and select Drop-Down. There is no option for this in the new version. See snippet below.

  • Click on your visual, and on the top bar, click on the 3 ellipses and a "v" will show up to enable the header view. This doesn't work either. There is no "v", see snippet below:

    1. Open Format visual

    2. Go to Visual → Slicer header

    3. Toggle Slicer header = On

    4. Turn the slicer header ON (manual override)This also doesn't work- there is no slicer header option!

Can ANYONE help me???!!!!

Hi @michelleomalley ,

just a guess - not quite sure, but worth checking on your end. Could you be using the wrong slicer visual?

What you are looking for is the classical Slicer (see my screenshot) - and I believe you may have chosen the List Style Slicer (with the flash symbol) which does not give you the functionality you are looking for.

Let me know if this helps.

Hi,

It looks like you picked 'List Slicer' from Visual Build. Use 'Slicer' instead,

@martingrosse  thank you SO much! For whatever reason my dashboard was hiding that visual! I had to reset / go back to default for it to pop up, but it works and I appreciate your timely response!

Hi @michelleomalley

It looks like you have selected the button slicer - which is one of the new slicers which unfortunately do not support dropdown.
