How to change a data source without changing the existing report ID
Hi Gao,
In your testing have you tried a scenario where the data source changes from a direct Excel link (local or in SharePoint) to an existing Power BI dataset in Power BI service? I've tried that change on a couple different reports and when I publish I don't get the replacement confirmation popup. Instead I get a second report published with the exact same name and a new reportId.
Thanks,
Jen
Dear jlh9,
I am facing the same issue. We did a re-design of an existing Power BI dataset and planned to replace the old dataset with the new one - both with direct query connection.
Our steps:
1. Re-design of the dataset
2. Download the report from the Power BI service
3. Change data source settings of the report to the new dataset
4. Upload the report under the same name to the same workspace
Unfortunately, the report shows up twice, each with an individual report ID.
Best regards
Bassi
