How to change a Direct Lake data source in the sematic model, without losing the meta data setting
- 4 months ago
speedramps I did this before using TMDL, and it worked:
Following legend I'm going to use in the reply
Old = existing workspace
New = new workspace you want to change to
- First get the GUID of the new workspace and new warehouse from the Power BI service, and make the following text:
https://onelake.dfs.fabric.microsoft.com/<workspace guid>/<warehouse guid>2. Open existing Direct Lake model in Power BI desktop, go to TMDL page, and grab expression in the TMDL script tab. It will give you something like this:
3. Replace the source with the text created above (with the new Workspace and warehouse guid), section in red in the image above.
4. Apply changes
5. Refresh
And this will connect to the new workspace and warehouse, and will keep the table metadata intact. Let me know how it goes. Cheers!
