How to capture Snapshots of data

I am working on a project and at the moment consolidating a number of files into one appended query and pulling this into my model.

What we would like to do is capture the changes month over month of said data, I was hoping there'd be an easy way to create snapshots of this with just the one file but looks like its not possible?

My thinking is I need to create monthly datasets of the file in one folder and pull that into a query and use some time/data references to see what changes are made month on month, is this the most ideal way?
