How to break out counts over months?

I have a Table where I am showing a column called Event Type and a column which generates a count of the number of times the type appears in the datasource. There's a table called Event Type which holds the name and a main table which looks up to the event type name with an Event type ID so the count is on the event type ID.

The count is working properly for the totals and I can filter by a date range (different column in table). But instead of filtering on a date, I'd like to break the counts out by month. So instead of a column for the event type name and total count, there would be a column for name and columns for each month of the year.

I am really new to Power BI so not sure if I should start with the table I already have or attempt to create a table which shows each month as a column. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Anonymous  If I got you right you like to have a Date's table to be able to break it by month, week, year, etc.

My suggestion is you create a full flesh Date table with all these as separate column inside PBI, and join it to your fact's table and then play with your slicers and filters accordingly.

If you don't know the parameter/code for it let me know to post it here for you...

Thanks for the resonse. I do have a date column in my main table with the event date/time. That's the date I'd like to use to use for the date count. I am not sure how to create a Date table and/or join it to my table so any resources or examples would be really helpful

    Hi Anonymous ,

To be more helpful, could you share some data sample which could reproduce your scenario and your desired output so that we could help further on it?
